At first glance this looks like an odd pairing. SE Ranking is a full SEO platform, and Frase is a content platform. But they end up on the same shortlist more often than you'd think. On monthly billing, the main plan of each costs $129 a month, and both now promise to help you grow in Google and in AI answers. The real question isn't which tool is better. It's what kind of tool your site needs first.

This comparison is based on official pricing and feature pages from both companies, checked in October 2026. We haven't used both tools side by side on our own site yet, so there are no invented rankings or test scores.

Quick verdict

  • Choose SE Ranking if you need the full SEO toolkit: rank tracking, keyword and backlink research, technical audits, local SEO and AI visibility, with content tools included.
  • Choose Frase if your bottleneck is producing and refreshing content. It researches, drafts, optimises, publishes to your CMS and watches pages for decay, with an agent that can publish on its own if you let it.

  • Professional: $129/month, or $103/month billed yearly. 3 seats, 5 sites, 40 articles, 250 audit pages, content calendar, internal linking, AI crawler monitoring, Perplexity tracking, Content Guard on 75 pages.

Frase notes that Starter simply stops at its limits, so there are no surprise bills. On Professional and Scale, pay-as-you-go overages are optional and off by default. Extra seats cost $29/month.

The interesting part: SE Ranking Core and Frase Professional cost exactly the same on monthly billing ($129) and almost the same on annual billing ($103.20 vs $103). For the same money you get very different things.

Features compared

1. SEO data and tracking: SE Ranking's home ground

SE Ranking tracks thousands of keywords daily, researches competitors and backlinks, and audits whole sites technically. Frase doesn't try to compete here. If you need to know where you rank and why your site has technical issues, SE Ranking is the tool.

2. Content production: Frase's home ground

Frase is built around a content loop. It researches what already ranks, drafts and optimises in your voice, publishes to WordPress, Webflow, Sanity, Wix or its own FraseCMS, and then watches pages with Content Guard. When a page starts losing rank, Content Guard writes a fix and republishes after your approval. Frase also offers an agent that can publish on its own if you switch it on.

SE Ranking also has solid content tools: a Content Editor with competitor-based briefs and real-time scoring, and an AI Writer. But content is one module among many, with 25 or 50 articles a month.

3. AI search visibility

Both track AI answers. SE Ranking includes daily prompt tracking on both plans (100 or 250 prompts), with an AI Search add-on for more prompts and engines. Frase's tracking grows by plan: ChatGPT and Google AI on Starter, Perplexity from Professional, and Claude and Gemini on Scale. Frase also includes AI crawler monitoring from Professional.

4. Integrations and automation

SE Ranking connects to GA4, Search Console, Looker Studio and Matomo, and offers an API and MCP server. Frase offers an MCP server and CLI on every plan, so it can run inside AI assistants and developer tools, with API request quotas from 5,000 to 50,000 per month.

5. Local SEO

Only SE Ranking covers local and map rank tracking and listing management. That matters for local businesses such as shops, clinics or travel agencies.

Which should you choose?

SE Ranking makes more sense if:

  • you're starting from zero and need one tool to see rankings, find keywords and fix technical problems;
  • you manage several sites or clients and need reporting;
  • local search matters to your business.

Frase makes more sense if:

  • you already have SEO data (or a separate tracker) and your real bottleneck is publishing and updating content;
  • you want automated decay detection and CMS publishing;
  • you want to track AI visibility across several AI engines on the higher plans.

Can you use both? Yes, and many content teams do pair an SEO suite with a content tool. If budget allows only one, pick SE Ranking for breadth or Frase for content output.

Pros and cons

SE Ranking

  • Complete SEO toolkit; strong limits; local SEO; AI prompt tracking included; 14-day trial
  • Content tools are less automated; no refunds; Core history limited to 6 months

Frase

  • End-to-end content workflow; Content Guard; flexible CMS publishing; no surprise bills on Starter; 7-day trial, no card
  • Not a rank tracker or backlink tool; article quotas are tight on Starter; multi-engine AI tracking needs higher plans

Our verdict (researched, not yet hands-on)

These tools don't really compete. They cover different halves of the job. SE Ranking is the better first tool for most site owners because it shows the whole SEO picture and includes capable content features. Frase is the better pick when content volume and freshness are what hold you back. Use the trials: SE Ranking gives you 14 days, Frase 7.
